I'm a lifelong Santa Cruz local. I've spent years in the art and maker scene here, including helping build intricate projects for Burning Man.

A handheld laser lets me take rust, paint and old coatings off metal without grit or chemical strippers, and make small, careful welds. It suits the kind of work this town has plenty of: boat hardware that salt air has been chewing on, classic cars that deserve to keep their original metal, and the odd gate, tool or sculpture that needs saving.

When you text me, you're talking to the person who'll do the work. Individuals and businesses are both welcome, and so are single parts.

How I work

I look at the part first
For cleaning, I test a small area to check the finish. For welding, I assess the metal, the joint and the damage.
I tell you if it isn’t a laser job
If the material or condition makes a job unsuitable for laser work, I’ll say so instead of trying anyway.
We agree on the price
If I find extra work once I’ve started, we talk about the cost before I continue.
I plan for what comes next
Let me know if a part will be painted, coated or welded after cleaning. That changes the preparation it needs.

Tell me roughly how big it is, the material if you know it, and where it is. I'll let you know whether it's a good fit for laser work.
